William Selyem Chardonnay

William Selyem – Chardonnay 1999 Hawk Hill Vineyard – Russian River Valley, Sonoma, CA
Cost: $38/Bottle

Gold, dark topaz in color, medium-bodied with a rather crisp but heavy/weighty texture. There is plenty of fruit embedded in this wine with aromatics that remind me of mild tangerine and Tang®, drizzled with honeydew. Rather ripe but with good grip and zing on the texture. Consistent flavor make this merrily drinkable and a great match for seafood. Overall, an enjoyable and memorable chardonnay, a 12 year old Sonoma wine that can boast keeping up with the big grand cru hot shots from Burgundy.
Rating: 92
