If You Are the One

March 12th, 2010

So, I know it’s been a while since I recommended any movies with F&B related themes. Well, I just found one! OK, so it’s not exactly F&B "related," but the scenery contains some of the most beautiful restaurants I have ever seen. Some of the exterior scenes are stunning as well. On top of that, the story is warm, engaging, endearing and beautiful. And it’s funny, too!

What more could you possibly ask for?

Watch If You Are the One. This month, it’s this film that’s undoubtedly The One for me.

:)

In the Loop

February 25th, 2010

You’re sagacious, contemplative and yet humorous, right? Of course you are; that’s why you appreciate PX This so much, right?!

Well, my latest Netflix recommendation will have you rolling in the aisles on your living room carpet. What better way to celebrate tolerate the farcical proficiency of our federal goverment than to roll on the floor streaming tears of frustration laughter?

Watch In the Loop. You’ll be aghast glad you did.

My Kid Could Paint That

February 4th, 2010

Art vs Commerce is undoubtedly a prevalent and consistent underlying theme in PX This, the upcoming PX This Too and pxthis.com. But you already knew that, right? That’s one of the reasons you appreciate them so!

With that in mind, my next Netflix recommendation is My Kid Could Paint That. It will delight, amaze, and horrify you. What more could you want in a film?

The Good Thief…

The Good Thief, Layer Cake, and L’Empire des Loups

Well! Who would have thought the "Netflix This" feature would have so many fans with such raging testosterone? After our last recommendation of Bad Influence, suddenly Y chromosomes started coming out of the woodwork. It seems most of our suggestions have had a decidedly "pussyish" "feminine" bent, but it certainly was never our intention to neglect the brutisher sex. Settle down there, boys! I got something for you, too:
The Good Thief, Layer Cake, and L’Empire des Loups (not necessarily in that order).

You will absolutely love them. Trust me. So call Domino’s, grab a six-pack, snuggle into your Lazy-Boy and enjoy!
But don’t forget to take out the trash first.

Bad Influence

December 16th, 2009

Remember Bad Influence?

No?!
Well, do you remember the ostentation and decadence of the 90′s? Do you remember when nightclubs used to be cool? Do you remember when parties were glamorous and fun? Do you remember how you once had a huge crush on Rob Lowe? Do you remember James Spader?

Watch Bad Influence again to reminisce about all those things. (Oh yeah, and the story is pretty enthralling, too, remember?)

The Lives of Others

December 7th, 2009

lives_of_others

I’m running out of great films to recommend! What to do, what to do… Oh, I know! I’ll just inquire of other people which films they’d recommend. And to keep it all in the spirit of PX This, I’ll ask some of the aficionados and arbiters in and around the F&B/Nightlife industry! Won’t that be fun? Here we go!

Hey, Serge Becker! How’s about a good Netflix recommendation?

“…Sometimes, the way being in the industry has made me feel lately, I’d say… watch The Lives of Others. Yeah, definitely watch that one.”

Thanks! OK, will do!

Yeah so I wracked my brain trying to think of a nice, warm-hearted, feel-good movie to recommend for the holiday, but LOL!— I couldn’t come up with a single one (you haven’t already seen). So perhaps try: The Valet.

It’s funny!
Ya know, just in case you don’t really feel like watching football or whatever this weekend.

Happy Thanksgiving! Gobble gooble.

See you Monday! :)

Scratch: The Movie

November 18th, 2009

scratch_themovie

Since it’s "scrappy liitle fucker" Filipino Appreciation Week here at PX This, my latest Netflix recommendation is Scratch. Originally suggested to me by an amazing "scrappy little fucker" Filipina friend, I marvelled at performances by ("scrappy little fucker" Filipino) Beastie Boys’ ‘Mike D,’ widely credited with inventing the "scratch" turntablism genre, and ("scrappy little fucker" Filipino) DJ Qbert, whom you will believe is using his art form to "communicate with aliens."

Belated congratulations to Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao, who, last weekend, single-handedly elevated a nation’s faith and optimism in the wake of its prevalent devastating typhoons, pervasive poverty and political/theological turmoil.

Scratch is a testimony to the unconventional beauty and brilliance found in all aspects of life. Hopefully, its ebullience will inspire you, too.

Who Killed…Capitalism… ?

October 19th, 2009

Who Killed…Capitalism… [with] No End in Sight?

Face it: even if you despise Michael Moore because you think he is a big fat hypocrite for capitalizing on his documentary about the hypocrisy of capitalism (or whatever it is you think or claim to think because you’re really a closet Republican or a wealthy CEO or a Hater who simply hates anyone who makes more money than you or whatever), you are still going to watch this film. Because obviously nothing pleases you more than to stand around and pontificate with all those insipid mental midgets (at that stupid cocktail party you never wanted to attend anyway) who are so retarded as to fall for stupid big fat Michael Moore’s capitalizing on their angst and emotions with his schmaltzy hypocritical movie about the hypocrisy of capitalism. And you don’t want to come off as a dumb mental midget in the midst of all your brilliant pontificating just because you never actually saw the movie, right?
And yeah yeh, I get it. You’re not going to pay $15 per ticket to see it in some crappy outdated obsolete theater when you already pay out the nose for a monthly subscription fee to both Cable Television and Netflix, because after all— why should Michael Moore get to capitalize any more than he already does by making this hypocritical film about the hypocrisy of capitalism?!

O.K.

who_killed_the_electric_car

Whatever! In the meantime, while you are waiting for Capitalism: A Love Story to be released on DVD so you can "netflix it" or for it to appear on one of the "pay channels" you already pay for, why don’t you netflix Who Killed the Electric Car? and No End In Sight and watch them first.

no-end-in-sight

Why?

Why, because when you finally see Capitalism… (in the comfort of your own home on your own terms with your own popcorn and your own nachos and your own beer that ha! — you can’t even get at the stupid overpriced outdated theater) after you’ve already seen "Who Killed…" and "No End…" — by the time you get to the middle of Capitalism, you will want to gouge out your own eyeballs and stick your fists into your own sockets and violently claw at your own brain.

And what’s more fun than that?

Priceless

October 13th, 2009

movie_priceless

Yup, it’s perennial Travel Month at PX This. Hooray!

But now it’s time to lighten it up just a bit around here, since I’m sure the last few film recommendations completely swept you up and away and had you sobbing and weeping like a pitiful little bitch.

Have no fear— some laughter, hilarity and gaiety is near! Order Priceless. You won’t regret it.

Seriously, if the Jaeger Lecoultre wristwatch scene doesn’t have you saying “OK OK, fine!” (for a change) to that creepy ole “regular” who drops in consistently and leers at you lasciviously all night long (and then subsequently smashing your own Casio on the bathroom counter)— nothing will. LOL!

Oh, just watch the damned movie.

The Italian

October 6th, 2009

02the_italian

That’s right; we’re still in Travel Mode here at PX This. In that vein, I present another one of my personal favorites: The Italian.

You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, it’s better than most movies you’ve probably ever seen in your lifetime. The Italian is undoubtedly the kind of film that will make you fall in love with movies all over again and make you wonder how a person like Brett Ratner could ever become so fucking rich.

italian

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
